LOVE IS… CARING

“Sunog! Sunog!” Cries for help and warnings rang through the air as a fire broke out in the Batasan Hills community, home to the Vision Himpossible Ministries’ (VHM) Learning Center in the Philippines. In this densely populated area, a small spark could ignite a wildfire, and within hours, the flames were unstoppable. House after house was consumed, like a river of fire.

“Are our students okay?” The VHM team hastily called each family to ensure everyone was accounted for. Thank God, all were safe.

The fire had started in the home of Zack, one of our VHM scholars. Tragically, the elderly resident of the house did not survive.

The fire was finally extinguished in the evening. Zack’s father, John, went to the refugee center to check on their neighbors. Many families had suddenly become homeless and were in desperate need. Stirred by compassion, John offered to help however he could, despite his own personal loss.

Without hesitation, the fathers of the VHM scholars pulled their resources and provided money to John. Together with his wife, John quickly purchased rice and groceries. They assembled relief packs and distributed them to as many families as possible. Moved by the situation, John and his wife prayed for each recipient, laying hands on them. “It’s the first time we’ve ever prayed for people in our community. We are amazed at the goodness of God,” John said.

Months after the tragedy, many of the families have rebuilt their homes. We look back with gratitude at John’s swift response, who was one of the first on the scene to show God’s love amidst the fire. Truly, a heart after God is one that cares beyond expectations.
