“If you were a superhero, who would you be and why?”
We opened the school year with this icebreaker for Parents’ Orientation, and all the dads and moms enthusiastically participated! The top answers were Superman and Darna, the Philippines’ leading super heroine.
This was our colorful way to remind the parents that they are superheroes in real life, especially to their children. Their encouragement and discipline in the home is the super-power that will help propel their children to success.
To prove they took this message to heart, many of them participated in “Brigada Eskwela” (School Brigade), the general cleanup of the Vision Himpossible Ministries (VHM) Learning Center. For one whole day, the dads and moms scrubbed chairs, polished the classroom, and cleaned the school perimeter. The VHM Learning Center sparkled and was ready to receive their children. Thank you to our super heroes!
Ready… get set… READ!
Giggles filled the classroom as our new batch of preschoolers reveled in their first week of school. Annually, this is the biggest hurdle for our teachers as they try to calm down a room full of rowdy five-year olds. As usual, chasing is involved. But teaching has its golden moments. After a few days, they dove into the alphabet. It was a joy to hear the students unanimously chanting the words, “Aging Ape”, as they learned the long “A” sound. Once they got hooked on reading, it was uphill from there!
A strong body equals a strong mind
Our VHM scholars receive free medical checkups at the start of the year and those who need urgent care are immediately assisted. Thank you to our partner doctors, who are always ready to come to the rescue. Through their guidance, we determine which children are underweight or malnourished. These kids are enrolled in a daily feeding program designed to nurture them to health in three months. After all, a strong body equals a strong mind.
The Vision Himpossible BLESS Program provides free education and feeding intervention to indigent children, through the support of generous donors.
