I want to take a moment to shine a light on Monaliza Ylagan, whom I lovingly call Mona and often refer to as sis. She is not just my sister in Christ and my bible study partner; she is also a constant prayer warrior. Mona truly embodies the spirit of hard work, diligently managing her responsibilities in receiving and accounting. While she may seem shy and soft-hearted, don’t let that fool you—life has thrown her challenges that have revealed her as one of the strongest women I know. With both her husband and mother diagnosed with cancer simultaneously, she carries the weight of her family with incredible grace and unwavering faith.
I am profoundly grateful for the special bond Mona and I have cultivated over the years, especially as we navigated motherhood together. It’s remarkable to think that we were pregnant at the same time, both blessed with two children—each with significant age gaps between our youngest. Sharing stories about our little ones has brought immense joy into my life, and I truly cherish those moments.
Recently, I was overjoyed to hear that Mona’s daughter, Waydine, won 1st place in an inter-school writing competition! Knowing how pure and genuine children can be, I couldn’t wait to read her piece. When I finally did, it exceeded all my expectations.
What struck me even more was how she captured a profound sense of connection and meaning by linking the rainforest to a potential cure for cancer. This connection is especially resonant given the challenges Mona’s family is currently facing. With both her husband and mother undergoing chemotherapy after their cancer diagnoses, it’s heartwarming to see how Waydine’s writing reflects the love and resilience present in their family. It serves as a beautiful reminder of how art can emerge from personal struggles, and I am immensely proud of Waydine for channeling her emotions into such a powerful piece.
The article:
Do you know the rainforest biome? Well if you don’t know it, I will tell you. To me it is a beautiful biome and it is home to a lot of animals. But it’s in danger! Some people want money, so they want these rainforests to be gone! I believe they should be protected.
For starters, the rainforest is made by God. He made us, the animals who live in the rainforest, everything! So the rainforest is special, like us. Do you want to destroy something or someone that Is special, I don’t think so!
Another reason is that there is food in the rainforest. Some foods are only found in the rainforest. They are called exotic foods. It also makes medicine for cancer! Cancer is not good. It is bad. We want cancer to be gone. The rainforest is helping by having ingredients that are used for cancer medicine.
Lastly, there are lots of animals like birds, snakes, elephants, monkeys, and more living in the rainforest. More than half of the Earth’s animals live in this wonderful, amazing, beautiful biome. If we destroy the rainforest, the population of the animals will go down. They might even go extinct!
Earlier, I said that the rainforest should be protected. I said that the rainforest is God’s creation, cancer medicine can be made, and lots of animals live there. These are all reasons why I think they should be protected!
