5 Steps to Faith-Fueled Breast Health

● October 16, 2025

As a 40+-year-old woman who just finished my first mammogram in seven years, I’m sounding the alarm and sharing a quick action list. This is deeply personal, my best friend died from triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), and my mom was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer at age 83. The reality is urgent (and a tad scary if I may admit), but my faith gives me the courage to act. Ladies, our health is worth the time!

  1. Schedule That Mammogram, STAT.

I let seven years slip by. Don’t be me! For women 45-54, annual mammograms are generally recommended. That brief discomfort is nothing compared to the peace of mind (it was not that brief for me but yeah, so worth it). If you’re due, call your doctor today. Don’t let fear postpone necessary action.

  1. Know Your Normal—TNBC Can Be Aggressive.

My best friend’s fight with cancer reminds me that vigilance is key. Get familiar with your body. Check your breasts monthly for any changes in size, shape, lumps, thickening, skin dimpling, or nipple discharge. If something feels off, call your doctor immediately (women’s intuition is KING… always).

  1. Talk About Your Double Risk: Family and Friend.

With my mom’s diagnosis and the tragic loss of my friend, I know the weight of my risk profile. Share both family history and specific concerns with your doctor — they need to know everything to create a personalized screening plan for you, which might include earlier or more frequent screenings like a breast MRI. (As tempting as it may sound for some, do not downplay anything to your doctors, or worse, omit things that might be crucial!)

  1. Embrace a Healthy Lifestyle (It Really Helps).

While our faith is our strength, we’re also called to be good stewards of our bodies. That means maintaining a healthy weight, getting at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week, limiting alcohol, and avoiding smoking. It’s one of the best investments we can make in our overall health and well-being (even when that post-work glass of wine is calling our name… sigh).

  1. Take Your Power Back Through Proactive Care.

It’s easy to feel scared, but taking action is the most powerful thing we can do. You’ve already taken the hardest step by getting screened. Now, build on that momentum. Make your annual checkups non-negotiable and partner with your doctor to create a screening plan that’s right for you. Being proactive is being powerful.

The pain of my experiences will always stay with me, but my faith in God gives me the courage to look forward with joy. By choosing to be proactive, we are not dwelling on fear; we are celebrating every day we have and protecting the beautiful future waiting for us. So let’s take a deep breath, hold onto the hope that all things will be well, and keep showing up for our own health—because we have so much to live for! 💗 Pink Power, ladies!!!
